Public Opinion:In neighboring country eleven people were sentenced to death for being involved in rape. Isn’t it shameful for our rulers that while awarding death sentence to the perpetrators, remarked that ‘this is not Pakistan’. It is the fundamental responsibility of the government and state to protect the honor, life, property and wealth of citizens, being their fundamental right according to the Constitution of the country and the international charters. But alas none of them is safe in this country. Occurrence of several terrible and shocking incidents has become order of the day – but the recent rape incident of a woman in front of her kids at Motorway in Punjab reportedly by the cops has jolted the entire country. In another such brutal act, a 5-year baby was raped and
murdered. Marwa from Karachi, a five year little girl, went out to buy food from a nearby shop. She didn’t return home. She was kidnapped, raped and killed. Her body was found in a garbage place. In yet other incident, the student of seventh class was also kidnapped from Gujarat and was killed after rape. Innocent children, who are flowers for their parents, have been victims of rape in all over the country. Unfortunately, the Zainab Alert Bill passed by the National Assembly, to bring an end to the violence against children has not been implemented so far to teach an exemplary lesson to culprits involved in the heinous cases. The increasing number of the rape cases in the country was alarming. It is unfortunate to say that when Indians rape the Kashmiri women, their brutality and atrocities are strongly condemned by us. Why the perpetrators are not taken to task and the mothers and innocent daughters living here in this unfortunate country, are not dispensed with justice? I am compelled to say these words, as they are not the children of the politicians and influential persons. Where and to whom they should lodge their complaints and raise the voice to get justice? The people of Pakistan want the Zainab Alert Bill implemented immediately in letter and spirit. The culprits involved in heinous crime of rape and murder must be brought to justice and awarded exemplary punishment to teach them a lesson so that any else could not think of committing such inhuman act. It seems that the bill passed by parliament was meant just to silence the aggrieved parents of children to show that the government is concerned for their safety. P .O Lahore’s statement is yet more shameful, when he says that the woman shouldn’t have set out late at night, as it was not France, and also that she must not have taken that route and why didn’t she check petrol before leaving. Such shameful statements are adding fuel to wounds. The CCPO’s statement proves that France was much safer than Pakistan, to travel late at night.
