Karachi: Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor has said that whole nation his hopeful that “our captain does not tell lies” and it expects that Prime Minister Imran Khan would return from the US visit with success, flanked by Dr Aafia Siddiqui. He said in this case the Pakistani people would give a historical welcome to the Prime Minister and his entourage.
In a statement here Monday, he said the innocent daughter of the nation, who is also one of the most brilliant minds of Pakistan, has been languishing in US detention for last 17 years without committing any crime. He said that Aafia was punished for her love to Islam and Pakistan and human rights activists all over the world have always strongly protested against her detention.
He said the previous rulers had also claimed that they would bring Aafia back home, but they failed to fulfill their promises. He said now it is the test of the promises and commitments of Imran Khan on the issue of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. He said the nation believes that he would fulfill his promise.
Altaf Shakoor hoped Imran Khan would reject US dollars and prefer release of Aafia and thus write a new history and become a great hero. He said the release of Aafia would also augur well for improving friendly and closer relations between Pakistan and the US, and a new era of development, prosperity and progress would begin in Pakistan.
Altaf Shakoor said previous rulers had missed many chances to secure the release of Aafia and now this is a golden opportunity for the PTI government and it is hoped that it would not squander it. He said the mother of Aafia is now old and ill and she wants to see her daughter. He said Dr Aafia had written a letter of congratulations to Prime Minister Imran Khan and termed his as his hero. He said the report of Pakistani consul general Aisha Farooqui about Aafia has already with the Pakistani foreign office. He hoped that Prime Minister Imran Khan would not disappoint the nation of issue of Aafia Siddiqui.
