National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser had said Prime Minister Imran Khan has agreed to the formation of a committee on a charter of economy. The NA speaker said he had discussed legislation, politics and economic affairs with the prime minister. During the talks, Qaiser said, the prime minister agreed to the formation of a special committee to tackle challenges to growth. According to reports, Qaiser said he will be taking the opposition on board to this end for the greater cause of our country. He added that this special committee for the economy will consider only current economic conditions and will propose solutions. I hope that governmentt and all opposition parties will contribute in their best for country’s greater cause, he added.

The idea of a charter of economy had been proposed by both PPP and PML-N. Former president Asif Ali Zardari had also said he had proposed a charter of economy to the government, but they were not receptive to the idea and they were mocking the suggestion. But Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior leader Khawaja Mohammad Asif has endorsed the stance of party’s vice president Maryam Nawaz that the proposed charter of economy has become a joke.

PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif had made the offer of the charter of economy to the PTI government during the ongoing session of the National Assembly. Ms Maryam rejected the offer at a press conference on Saturday and said that PML-N supreme leader and former premier Nawaz Sharif was against any charter of economy or charter of democracy. Her remarks fuelled speculation there are differences between her and Shahbaz Sharif. She denied reports of any rift with her uncle and said her remarks at the press conference had been quoted out of context. Currently country is facing severe economic crisis and it needs full attention of government and all opposition parties. It is the high time that government and all opposition parties should join hands to formulate a common strategy to resolve this longstanding economic crisis. In today’s world economy is directly linked to sovereignty of the country. All political parties should avoid politics on economy and work together for this supreme national cause. Government should move forward to initiate dialogue with opposition parties and brings them on same page in this regard.
