MUZAFFARABAD:     (Parliament Times)    The AJK Additional Chief Secretary Development Dr. Syed Asif Hussain briefed participants of 46thCommon Training Programme on Kashmir issue, administrative structure of AJK, latest situation in IOK and ongoing development programme in AJK.

The briefing was attended by AJK Secretary Finance Muhammad Fareed Tarar, Secretary Services and General Administration Ch. Liaquat Hussain and other officials.

Briefing the participants Hussain told them about historic background of Kashmir issue and UNSC resolutions on Kashmir. He said India was declining implementation of UN resolutions on Kashmir and was instead engaged in committing atrocities and human rights abuses against innocent people of Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Briefing on AJK Hussain told the trainees that AJK region was pretty peaceful and prospering. AJK’s normal budget is 79 percent while 21 percent of it is spent on development projects, he stated. He said state government was spending 32% budget on education it was why literacy rate here was much higher than the provinces of the country.

“AJK was producing 2361 megawatt power while the State’s need is just 350 megawatts. 950 megawatt generation projects are near to completion. Work on 1024 megawatt Kuhala power project would soon be kicked off. AJK would be producing 5000 megawatt power generation in the coming years” he said.

Hussain said AJK was included in CPEC under which two hydropower generation projects, construction of express way and industrial zone would be set up.

Giving briefing Hussain further told them that there was enormous potential of tourism and hydropower generation sectors in the State. Human resource is also State’s one of good potentials.

He said the number of overseas Kashmiris was 1.5 million who are settled in UK, Gulf, Central Asia, South America, and different European countries. He said 13 electoral constituencies are situated on LoC that are badly affected by unprovoked Indian forces shelling from across the LoC. He told the visiting team that almost everyone in AJK has his own land while facilities of water and power have been provided to the people living in far flung areas of the State.
