ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) on Thursday asked the government to reconsider its decision of suspending supply of natural gas to the CNG sector as it will leave hundreds of thousands jobless while adding to the burden on forex reserves.
Suspension of natural gas supply to CNG stations will jack up oil import bill by billions of rupees, therefore, the decision should be taken back otherwise the APCNGA can consider countrywide protests, it said.
The Central Chairman of APCNGA Brig. Iftikhar Ahmed (Retd) said in a statement issued here today that CNG stations have been closed in Sindh for an indefinite period, uncertainty looms in Punjab where the supply of gas was discontinued without any notice while gas supply has been reduced to CNG filling stations in Swat, Mardan, Hanju and Mansehra districts.
He said that the move has pushed the majority of the public transport vehicles off-road adding to the miseries of tens of millions of people.
Brig. Iftikhar Ahmed (Retd) said that the sector paying the highest tariff for natural gas should not be penalized for the shortage of gas, adding that CNG is the only sector which is buying RLNG but it is frequently targeted which is unjustified.
