Sargodha: Speakers at a seminar on Tuesday urged the youth to contribute towards society’s development by playing their effective part in fight against corruption. They highlighted the need of self-accountability instead of looking for the NAB, Anti-Corruption Establishment and other watchdogs to deter corruption.
The seminar was convened by the Department of Communication and Media Studies in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Anti-corruption Establishment, Sargodha to mark the World Anti-corruption Day 2018.
Regional Director Anti-corruption Establishment, Sargodha Asim Raza, Deputy Director Anti Corruption Gul Muhammad Raan, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Muhammad Afzal, Incharge Department of Communication and Media Studies Dr Mudassar Hussain, faculty members and a large gathering of students attended the seminar.
They stressed on eliminating corruption to pave the way for corruption free Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Asim Raza said that people from every segment of the society were joining hands to fight the important internal battle against corruption as they have seen its drastic effects over the society. He urged the youth to assist the government efforts for good governance and ensuring rule of law.
Gul Muhammad Raan, while speaking about in the support of self-accountability, said that corruption is not merely about financial embezzlement or making illegal money but breaking someone’s trust is also a kind of corruption. He enlightened the participants about various kinds of corruption including political corruption, administrative corruption, professional and moral corruption and asked the students to play their role in making Pakistan a corruption free country.
Dr Muhammad Afzal said that corruption has afflicted all the organs of our society including the polity, bureaucracy, judiciary, police, and even the public at large. He highlighted the role of teachers in shaping the society particularly building the students to play their part against the corrupt motives.
Dr Mudassar Hussain said that “We joined the world in celebrating the International Anti-Corruption Day to create awareness among the masses, especially the youth of the ill-effects of corruption in the society.”
At the end, Dr Afzal, Asim Raza and Dr Mudassar distributed certificates and souvenirs among the students of Media and Communication Studies who were working as interns in the Regional Directorate of Anti-corruption Establishment, Sargodha.
Additionally, a walk in the main campus was also held to raise awareness against corruption. Officials from Anti-corruption Establishment Sargodha, faculty members and a large numbers of students carrying play cards and banners with anti-corruption slogans participated in the walk.
