NEW YORK: Pakistan permanent envoy to UN Maleeha Lodhi has said peace prospects in Middle East (M.E) have become more remote than before.
She said this while expressing her views in a debate on M.E at United Nations Security Council (UNSC) .
She said UNSC resolution on Occupied Baitul Muqaddas is already delayed. Over 200 Palestinians have been martyred in Ghazza from March todate. The efforts for two states solution are becoming diluted. The illegal expansion of Israel in occupied territories is continuing unchecked.
She stressed international community should continue support two state solution based on 1967 borders and Al-Qudus as Palestine capital.
Regarding suspension of US assistance to UNRWA, she said human needs should not be held hostage to political conflicts and bias.
She announced that Pakistan is providing additional assistance to UNRWA.
Underscoring the need for resolving Syria-Yemen conflict through dialogue, she said there is urgent need for finding diplomatic solution to ongoing violence and instability in certain parts of M.E.
