Islamabad: A delegation of International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived in Islamabad on a week-long visit to discuss challenges to the county’s economy.
According to sources in Finance Ministry, the IMF delegation will hold talks with Authorities in Finance, Trade, Investment, Energy and Petroleum Ministries and Federal Board of Revenue.
Earlier, during an interview with an international news agency, Finance Minister Asad Umar dispelled the notion that Pakistan is facing a financial emergency and said that there is no need to rush to the IMF for a bailout.
“Pakistan is not in an emergency situation that requires it to rush to the IMF to seek a bailout,” the finance minister said
“We have neither stopped imports nor imposed financial sanctions,” he continued.
Talking about the IMF mission’s visit the Finance Minister has said that, “talks with the mission were not for new loans.
The IMF delegation is headed by Finger while Pakistani delegation comprises Secretary Finance, Governor State Bank, Secretary for Economic Affairs.
