Rawalpindi: With population rising day by day, space to perform social and religious practices for the residents of Rawalpindi is no more a care free affair due to the lack of community centers in the highly populated city.
Sources said due to the insufficient numbers of government community centers, residents of densely populated areas are compelled to either pay high charges for private marquees or to block streets and link roads in order to perform necessary rituals.
Event like wedding, mourning, soyem , chehlum etc are held inside tents that are often set on busy streets and link roads. Such activities usually amount to traffic chocks and noise pollution.
Offices of Social Welfare Department have been set up inside the only community center at Committee Chowk Children Park.
Officials of Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal have said that they could not afford building such centers on their own due to lack resources. The government should build community centers to facilitate the public at large.
