Lahore: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has warned proceedings will be initiated under article 6 against whosoever tries to halt construction of dam.
He gave these remarks while presiding over 2-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) during the course of hearing of suo moto notice regarding mineral water companies in Lahore registry Saturday.
Counsel for the federal government told the court these mineral companies pay paisas 25 per liter to government and are selling mineral water at the rate of Rs 50 per liter.
He also filed report in the court stating that 82 units of mineral water companies are functioning in Karachi, 12 in Islamabad, 15 in Hyderabad, 16 in Sukkar and 8 in Lahore.
CJP remarked “ it will have to be seen if the minerals are there in mineral water or otherwise. The mineral water selling companies should sit with the government and settle rate for drawing water.
He remarked “ poor man is forced to drink water from pond still. I drink boiled water of water pump at home because my nation is drinking this water.
He observed “ water is now costlier than gold and its robbery will not be allowed in any way. We have made the people habitual of drinking mineral water and now money is being minted out of it.
He remarked “ I tell you a thing. I have no motive other than serving the nation. Had this country not come to existence then I would have been perhaps munshi of Aitzaz Ahsan. I have started studying article 6 of the constitution. The people who try to halt the construction of dam will be tried under article 6 of the constitution.
The court summoned chief executive officers of all major water mineral companies including Nestle today on Sunday.
