Lahore: Supreme Court Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday took suo moto notice on private hospitals charging exuberant fees for medical treatment.
The chief justice, during hearing of cases in Lahore Registry, remarked that private hospitals fleece patients by charging them hefty amount on a per-day basis. In this way, they earn hundreds and thousands of rupees.
The court, while issuing notices to more than 12 hospitals, including Hameed Latif Hospital, summoned them to appear before the court on Sunday.
The chief justice also summoned secretary health and healthcare commission to appear before the court today. The court ordered all stakeholders to appear before the court on Sunday along with complete record.
The court also directed the hospitals owners to present a complete list of charges in the court. The court remarked the private hospitals are looting public at the name of medical treatment. The hospitals instead of providing facilities are extracting money from public.
The court receives complaints in this connection on daily basis, adding that private hospital will not be allowed to loot public. The court remarked these hospitals don’t have parking area and most of the visitors’ occupied area on surrounding roads.
The court warned that fine will be imposed on the hospital owner if any vehicle was found parked on the road outside hospital. The fine money will be deposited in the dams fund.
Meanwhile, the court also sought report on those hospitals constructed on drains.
