Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday ordered constitution of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate May 12 2012 carnage in which 48 people were perished and more than 130 were injured in a broad daylight.
A two member bench of SHC while announcing a judgment pertaining to a May 12 2017 petition, ordered formation of JIT to investigate the massacre.
The SHC in its verdict ordered Sindh Government to furnish before it a report on the implementation of the verdict within two weeks.
The court also ordered re-opening of 65 cases closed under A-Class. The two members bench recommended Chief Justice SHC to appoint a Judge to monitor the cases.
The SHC has also sought a report on disbursement of compensation money to the victims of the incident.
Earlier on May 12 2018 Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had ordered SHC to dispose of the case within three months. Upon which the court had reserved its verdict after hearing the arguments of counsels of all the parties and amicus cur1ae .
During the proceedings of the case, petitioner Iqbal Kazmi requested for constitution of Judicial Commission to investigate the case. Amicus curiae and counsels of the parties in the case also requested for the same however, the Sindh Government opposed the idea.
