Islamabad: PPP leader and former senate chairman Raza Rabbani has alleged that motive behind introducing internet based voting system is to rig and manipulate elections.
‘’Internet voting system suffered from complications from the beginning and invisible forces can influence the elections in Pakistan’’, he said this while talking to a private TV channel on Thursday.
He further said that there should be a complete discussion on the issue in the parliament house before introducing the system.
‘’Task force setup by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) itself had already expressed reservations on this system through which overseas Pakistanis were allowed to use their right of vote through internet’’, he added.
On the other hand, PLM-N is also opposed to the government’s stance of I-voting.
It is to be mentioned that Raza Rabbani had raised an objection in senate last week that i-voting is being used in other countries. Nearly six million overseas Pakistanis are residing outside the country and if the system is hacked, there is likelihood of manipulation in the results.
PPP leader asserted that ECP and NADRA( National Database and Registration Authority) could not run the Result Transmission System(RTS) perfectly which created serious reservations and the because of this i-voting system can be subjected to cybercrime.
Raza Rabbani made it clear that there is no system to verify online voting and it is against the section 94 of the Election act and article 226 of the constitution which demands the secrecy of the vote.
‘’By-elections will be held in 41 constituencies of National and provisional assemblies next month. PLM-N had also forced ECP to take all the parties on board on the matter of i-voting’’
