Islamabad: (Parliament Times) Pakistan Peoples Party-AJK chapter on Saturday expressed serious concern over what they called political witch-hunting and victimization of former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur at the hands of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The PPP leaders during a meeting here on Saturday while terming the cases against Zardari and his sister as politically motivated said that the duo were being targeted to save the PTI’s minority government and to give “selected prime minister” a free hand to run the government without opposition. They said that PPP leadership won’t be deterred by such mean pressure tactics . “This is not new for the party leadership as they have faced such accusations in the past, many allegations were leveled against Zardari Sahib but the courts acquitted him”, they said adding that PPP co-chairman and Faryal Talpur will yet again be exonerated once this ‘bogus investigation’ comes to end. The participants of the meeting also hailed the PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s maiden speech in the National Assembly. They also condemned in strong terms the Indian government’s attempts to change article 35-A that guarantees special rights and privilege to permanent citizens of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion the President PPP-AJK chapter, Ch. Latif Akbar said that the PPP will foil all alleged ‘institutional conspiracies’ aimed at pushing the country’s largest political party to the wall in the name of so-called accountability. In a veiled reference to the PTI he said that the government, which kept harping on austerity and good governance got exposed soon after taking reins of power. He said that the credit for PPP’s victory in recent elections goes to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who led the election campaign courageously through out the country. He said that PPP will contest by elections on the seat, which was left vacant after the demise of MLA Khan Bahadur Khan. He expressed the hope that the party will win the bye-election as the incumbent regime has failed to address the issues faced by the people of Azad Kashmir.
The meeting was attended and addressed by former AJK president Sardar M Yaqoob Khan, Pervaiz Ashraf, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, Syed Azadar Kazmi and several others.
