Brussels: Chairman Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU), Mr Ali Raza Syed has asked Chairman Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf and Prime Minister-in-Waiting Mr Imran Khan to appoint a special envoy for peace process in South Asia.
In a letter to Chairman PTI, the Chairman KC-EU said, “We also believe that you may wish to consider appointing a Special Envoy with a mandate to initiate such a peace process and to negotiate the involvement of the international community.”
Mr Ali Raza also stressed over the participation of Kashmiris in a likely dialogue process on issue of Jammu and Kashmir. He however underlined that so far, India was not serious in the peace process. “Some time, India does not agree to take part in talks but some time, it participated in a dialogue process in order to change the international environment in its favour,” he added.
Congratulating Imran Khan on a victory in last month’s parliamentary elections in Pakistan, the letter while addressing him, said, your keen interest in the Kashmir question and your willingness to make positive moves towards securing the negotiated settlement of this 70 – year old dispute gives grounds for genuine optimism that the dreadful conditions under which the civilian population of Jammu & Kashmir are living may be about to be significantly improved.
Chairman KC-EU Ali Raza Syed added, the Kashmir Council-EU stands ready to assist your Administration in any way that may be needed to relieve the sufferings of the Kashmiri people and to give Kashmiris a real voice in deciding the future of this troubled region.
The letter also gave brief introduction of KC-EU as saying, “The Kashmir Council-EU is a civil society organisation based in Brussels and concerned with raising awareness within the European Parliament and other European institutions regarding the abuses of human rights which have become commonplace in Indian Administrated Jammu & Kashmir.
The letter further said, “We believe in peace and negotiations as you mentioned in your victory speech. The only way to solve the Kashmir issue is through peaceful negotiations in accordance with wishes of Kashmiri people.
Ali Raza Syed said, “We lobby for peace in the region, for the plebiscite proposed in the UN Security Council Resolution of 1948 to be implemented and for the people of Jammu & Kashmir to have a voice in any decision about the political future of the territory.” The letter added, “We believe that the chances of a sustainable peace process being put in place will be maximised if the international community can be persuaded to take on the role of mediator.”
