Karachi: The Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has declined invitation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to attend an All-Parties Conference (APC) and be part of the opposition.
Senior leader MQM Dr. Farooq Sattar said on Wednesday that his party has assured to support the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as it was a great opportunity for the party to serve Karachi and solve the problems faced by the city and its people.
He said that it was heartening that the federal government has shown interest to resolve the problems of Karachi and the MQM will support the PTI in this regard.
It was a great opportunity for the MQM to be part of efforts to resolve the issues in the urban areas of Sindh, Dr. Farooq Sattar added.
Earlier, PML-N leader and former Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair called on MQM’s Faisal Sabzwari and invited to attend the APC on behalf of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif. The PML-N is seeking to deter the MQM from joining the coalition government of the PTI.
Muhammad Zubair also urged the MQM to sit in the opposition, and said they would like to form a grand opposition alliance against the PTI. He also conveyed a message on behalf of the PML-N leadership.
However, Sabzwari said that the party has made no decision over attending the APC, and a final decision will be made after consultation with the coordination committee. He said the political situation was changing rapidly and they will make any decision after close consideration.
MQM leader Farooq Sattar had also reportedly called PTI’s pointman Jehangir Tareen and assured him of the party’s support for the next government
