Geneva:(Parliament Times) The convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Pakistan chapter Syed Faiz Naqashbandi has sought attention of UN Human Rights Council towards the threats meted out to human rights defenders in Indian held territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking part in the discussions held under Agenda Item 5 at 38th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Friday the APHC leader while appreciating the work of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and his Office noted regrettably that India has not allowed UN team to visit Occupied Kashmir despite of repeated requests from September 2016, made by High Commissioner for Human Rights.
“Now when office of High Commissioner had published report on 14th June 2018, India has not only rejected the report but is opposing the establishment of Commission of Inquiry”, he said adding that India does not want the world to know the massive and systematic human right violations by its forces there. This negation will give tremendous rise to massive human right abuses there.
Expressing grave concern over the increasing pressure against human rights defenders in Occupied Kashmir, for cooperating with the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights, he urged the council to ensure protection of rights defenders against all forms of intimidation and reprisals by India.
