Peace and political stability are largely viewed as the most essential ingredients for maintaining economic development, social order and political stability in the country. However, political stability is critical to sustainable growth and development for it affects almost every aspect of life in addition to the state’s socio economic landscape. So far as the political instability is concerned Pakistani state has unfortunately been the worst victim of political instability and wayward wrangling that have cast a long dark shadow on its economic development.

On the other hand the country’s years- long battle against war on terror had caused enormous loss to its economy over the past several years. However, during the past couple of years Pakistan had witnessed a steady growth in almost every sphere government. A number of very significant and all-encompassing developments have taken place in the country. There has been a visible economic growth in the country, dwindling power sector has shown remarkable growth and peace and security situation had improved to a great extent. CPEC that is more often referred to as a game changer is acting as a catalyst in boosting up the economic growth and industrialization. During the recent years the foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into Pakistan have registered an extraordinary increase of 74 per cent, which speaks volumes about the corridor’s bright future prospect.

For the successful and timely implementation of CPEC and other mega projects under it there is a dire need to have political stability and peace in the country. Any attempt to vitiate the political environment in the country will have serious political and economic ramifications on the country. Interior minister Professor Ahsan Iqbal has rightly pointed out that the country would no longer be able to carry on with investment projects if prevailing political instability continues to exist.

The political forces whatsoever, should acknowledge the bitter reality that the country cannot afford political turmoil of any sorts at this crucial juncture. It is time that the political forces must shun petty politics and come forward in a big way to make Pakistan a better place for the younger generations. This is perhaps the only thing the political leaders owe to none but their own people who choose them as their leaders and representatives.
