Islamabad: The accountability court has rejected a plea filed by the Sharif family seeking a week-long exemption to appear before the accountability court.
According to detail, The accountability court on Thursday rejected exemption from hearing pleas of ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz in National Accountability Bureau‘s (NAB) Avenfield reference.
During the hearing of the Avenfield reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar, defense counsels Khawaja Haris and Amjad Pervaiz had filed the applications attaching a medical report of Kulsoom Nawaz.
Islamabad Accountability Court judge Muhammad Bashir heard the case. Former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt. retd Muhammad Safdar appeared before the court. During the hearing defense counsels Khawaja Haris and Amjad Pervaiz had filed the applications attaching a medical report of Kulsoom Nawaz.
The medical report revealed that cancer has been found on the left side of Kulsoom Nawaz’s neck after which the doctors have suggested to go for radiotherapy. It stated that six time chemotherapy of Kulsoom Nawaz had been conducted and now doctor recommended here radiotherapy, so it was essential both the personalities to visit abroad to inquire her health.
In the request, the Sharif family informed the court that they will be travelling to the United Kingdom to make decisions regarding Kulsoom Nawaz’s treatment plan for cancer. Subsequently, the court turned down the plea and ordered to attend the hearings.
Meanwhile, Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head Wajid Zia continued to record his statement against the Sharif family in the Avenfield reference but his statement of was not completed yet. Later the court adjourned the hearing till March 27 and also summoned Wajid Zia in next hearing.
Later talking to media persons former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stated that suggestions to put names on Exit Control List (ECL) are being given despite serving the country. I don’t have any concern with any state institution, he added. He said that the purpose of filing supplementary reference against him is still unrevealed.
