ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has adjourned hearing of contempt of court petition against former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif till February 26.

A single bench of IHC presided over by Justice Amir Farooq took up for hearing contempt of court plea against Nawaz Sharif Tuesday.

Justice Amir Farooq remarked during the course of hearing of the case that a petition of similar nature is pending hearing in Lahore High Court(LHC).

The petitioner Makhdoom Niaz Inqilabi took the plea that only PEMRA has been made respondent in the petition pending hearing in LHC. In my case Press Council of Pakistan has also been made respondent. Nawaz Sharif is using venomous language against the courts persistently following his disqualification by Supreme Court (SC).

He prayed the court that Nawaz Sharif be convicted and punished in contempt of court case. Nawaz Sharif be disqualified under article 63 -1 too. Ban be imposed constitutionally on the speeches of Nawaz Sharif.

He argued that character assassination of judges has been made his habit by Nawaz Sharif. He is using derogatory remarks against Chief Justice of Pakistan and other judges continuously. He is using threatening and insulting language against judges during his addresses in public meetings. Nawaz Sharif is declaring judges as PCO judges.

He said Nawaz Sharif had said that chief justice of Pakistan is speaking in the language of Imran Khan.

Nawaz Sharif, secretary information, chairman PEMRA and Press Council of Pakistan have been made respondents in the petition.
