ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has convicted and sentenced Nehal Hashmi senator from PML-N to one month in prison , imposed fine amounting to Rs 1000 besides disqualifying him from holding any public office for five years in a contempt of court case.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa took up for hearing a contempt of court case against Nehal Hashmi on Thursday.

Under the orders of SC, Nehal Hashmi during previous hearing had submitted unconditional apology in the court in connection with his irresponsible and threatening speech but the court rejected his apology during the course of hearing of the case on February 01.

Nehal Hashmi was present in the court room and the he was arrested following the announcement of decision by the court.

While announcing the verdict Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said that two judges are agreed upon this sentence while Justice Dost Muhammad Khosa had authored a dissenting note.
During his emotional speech, Senator Nehal Hashmi had threatened that life of those investigating elected prime minister of Pakistan would be made miserable.
Without naming any one Hashmi had said “You will not be spared; you are in service now but remember you will retire tomorrow.”
“Those investigating us [must know] we will observe your day of judgment,” he stated further.

After this speech Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sought his resignation from Senate seat and suspended his party membership.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar had taken suo motice of his speech.
