Islamabad : A petition was filed in Supreme Court (SC) on Friday seeking halting the by-election in Lodhran NA-154.
The petitioner, Shahid Orakzai said that Article 224 of constitution disallows holding by-election within last 120 days of the completion of assembly constitutional tenure.
Election Commission of Pakistan has set the date for Lodhran by-election on February 12 while National Assembly will complete its tenure on May 31.
The petition further stated that Islamabad High Court had spent 15 days in hearing the stay order plea and then reserved the decision.
The petitioner prayed that the by-election should be stopped in order to save public money.
Earlier, the seat had fallen vacant after the Supreme Court of Pakistan had disqualified PTI Secretary General Jahangir Tareen for life on Dec 15.
