Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, has completed eight years under house detention.
The APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar strongly condemned the continued house arrest of the ailing leader. He said that no court had ever issued any formal house detention order for Syed Ali Gilani and the rule of law had been thrown to winds by the puppet rulers in occupied Kashmir.
The spokesman said that the Indian police had so far failed to produce any court order or any administrative document in support of APHC Chairman’s illegal house arrest. “What is the justification in turning his residence into a sub-jail?” he asked.
He said, stopping pro-freedom leaders from performing their religious, political and social responsibilities is gross violation of human rights and interference in the personnel and religious rights.
Meanwhile, Syed Ali Gilani in a media interview in Srinagar said that the years he spent detained inside his Hyderpora home-cum-office taught him a lesson of tolerance. “These years have given me strength to tolerate the fascist oppression,” he added.
The APHC Chairman was detained in his house during mass uprising in 2010. He has only been allowed to move out in medical emergency or at times to fly to Delhi for a medical check-up.
“Police and CRPF vans have been stationed outside the main gate of my house along with police and CRPF personnel who have been stopping entry of people and those from the media,” Syed Ali Gilani said. “It is the worst rights’ violation but we don’t have to be sad as we are on the right path. Allah is with us but we need to show commitment to the cause”, he maintained.
He said that people of Kashmir had given huge sacrifices since 1947. “Our five lakh brothers and sisters were butchered in 1947 and, since 1990, one lakh Kashmiris have been killed. People continue to give sacrifices everyday but we need to show commitment to safeguard our remarkable sacrifices,” he said.
