ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has warned that President Trump’s decision to recognize occupied Jerusalem as Israeli capital will derail prospects for a lasting peace in the Middle East.

Stating this during weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Friday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said Pakistan has noted with grave concern the move by the United States to shift its Embassy to the occupied City of Al-Quds Al-Sharif altering the legal and historical status of the city.

He said the move will sidestep decades of global consensus on this issue, undermine regional peace and security, as well as derail any prospects for a lasting peace in the Middle East.

He said the matter will be taken up at OIC summit.

Dr Muhammad Faisal said Pakistan renews its call for establishment of a viable, independent and contiguous State of Palestine, on the basis of internationally agreed parameters with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

He said Pakistan has issued travel advisory to its citizens in Afghanistan to remain cautious and get them registered with the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul.

To a question regarding China Pakistan Economic Corridor and Chinese offers to other countries of joining the corridor project, the Spokesperson said CPEC is a bilateral project having wide spectra of opportunities for regional connectivity.

To another question regarding Unite States Defence Minister’s visit to Pakistan, the Spokesperson said the visit is part of our efforts for cooperation towards eliminating terrorism from the region.
