Peshawar: Additional Inspector General Ashraf Noor and two other persons were martyred in a suicide attack in Hayatabad an area of Peshawar on Friday.
According to police, suicide attackers targeted AIG when he was going to home from his office. It was reported that suicide attackers were on the bike when they targeted the vehicle carrying the AIG and other policemen.
Capital City Police Officer Tahir Khan said that suicide attack occurred near Zarghoni Masjid in the vicinity of Tatara Park adding Noor’s gunman also was martyred in the blast which left six others wounded.
Injured driver Zeeshan told media that deceased gunman was sitting next to him in the front seat, while AIG Ashraf Noor was in the back seat when the suicide bomber blew up the vehicle.
The site of the blast was cordoned off as security forces conducted a search operation in the area to gather evidence.
AIG Ashraf Noor hailed from Gilgit Baltistan and joined the police force in 1989. He previously served as commanded Elite force and other key posts in the province.
It is pertinent to mention here that one soldier Muhammad Ilyas was martyred during an exchange of fire with terrorists in Rajgal area of Khyber Agency on November 09.
However five terrorists killed and four injured during exchange of fire, according to ISPR.
Pak-Army had launched operation Khyber-4 to curb terrorists and their outfits in Khyber agency.
Seven agencies of FATA including North Waziristan, Khyber and Orakzai Agency were considered save heavens for the terrorists.
