Abasspur: (Parliament Times) The President of Pakistan Peoples Party (Kashmir chapter) Ch. Latif Akbar while appreciating people who have been boring the brunt of Indian shelling across the line of control has said that the people living in this highly volatile area have been rendering great sacrifices for the Defence of the country saying that instead of 300 thousand rupees government should pay 20 Lakh rupee as compensation money to heirs of martyrs of LoC firing.

Addressing a public gathering here on Thursday the PPP president lauded chief of army staff General Qamar Zaman Bajwa for his recent visit to the region and expressing solidarity with cross LoC firing victims. Lambasting the AJK government’s apathy towards the miseries of the affected people living near the LoC he said that it was quite unfortunate that the federal minister for Kashmir Affairs visited Haveli to inaugurate road but he did not bothered to turn up in the area to meet firing victims. “The federal minister should have visited the area just to listen to the people’s problems”, Akbar said adding that “I congratulate General Bajwa who visited the area and listened the people’s problems”. He said that people living near LoC have been worst victims of Indian shelling. “Indian forces have been targeting our people every now and then but the government seems quite unmoved on the crucial issues”, he said. Expressing discontentment over the compensation money being offered to firing victims the PPP president demanded the government to pay 20 Lakh rupees as compensation to heirs of martyrs of LoC firing. “If government of Pakistan can set a hefty amount of 20 Lakh rupees as compensation money for those who were killed during a blast while collecting petrol from an overturned oil tanker and why can’t the government of AJK do same for those who are being ruthlessly killed by Indian shelling across the line of control”, Akbar asked.

Referring to deteriorating situation in IHK he said that the PPP had always projected and promoted Kashmir cause at international level and will continue to do so in future. “We can’t abandon people of Kashmir who have been rendering unprecedented sacrifice to achieve their cherished goal”, the PPP president said. About Gilgit Baltistan he said, “Those who are talking about converting GB into a province should bear in mind the fact that sacrifices being offered by the Kashmiris are not meant for the division of Kashmir”, Akbar maintained.
