Islamabad: (Parliament Times) While observing 27 October as a black day Kashmiri leaders hailing from both sides of line of control on Friday demanded the United Nations to shun its policy of indifference towards Kashmir and redouble its efforts to seek a peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute that happens to be the oldest unresolved international conflict awaiting final settlement.
The Kashmiris leaders expressed these views while addressing a protest demonstration, which was orgainsed by All Parties Hurriyat Conference Pak chapter at diplomatic enclave just a few yards away from Indian embassy in Islamabad. The protest demonstration was attended and addressed by leaders of various political parties of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir including Nassebullah Gardezi of Pakistan Muslim League (N), PTI leader Dr. Hyder, PPP leader and minister population welfare Sindh Mir Mumtaz Khan, JI leader Muhammad Yaseen, APHC leaders Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Faiz Naqashbandi, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Rafiq Ahmed Dar and others. The participants of the protest demonstrations wearing black ribbons around their arms raised high pitched slogans against what they call India’s illegal and forcible occupation of Jammu Kashmir.
Terming India as a ‘usurper’ the speakers on the occasion said that India on this day in 1947 had illegally landed its troops in Kashmir and took hold of the territory forcibly in flagrant violation of international law. They said that the country that had usurped the fundamental democratic rights of millions of Kashmiris claims to be the largest democracy. Demanding early settlement of Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions the speakers said that the UN must shun its policy of indifference towards Kashmir and play its much needed role to settle the dispute peacefully. Terming unresolved K-dispute as bone of contention in the region they said that the dream of lasting peace in the sub-continent would remain illusive unless the dispute was settled in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people. Expressing solidarity with the people of Kashmir, the representatives of Pakistani political parties on the occasion reaffirmed their full support to Kashmiris’ ongoing struggle for right to self determination.
Regarding the government of India’s recent move to initiate dialogue with Kashmiris the speakers said that tripartite talks was the only way forward to resolve Kashmir dispute. They said, “An inclusive dialogue involving all stakeholders including India, Pakistan and Kashmir can only prove conclusive and result oriented”, they said adding that bilateral negotiations have miserably failed to yield desired results.
