Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the family of an elderly man, Ghulam Muhammad Khan, awaits justice.
Ghulam Muhammad Khan, 76, died at Soura hospital in November last year of injuries caused by a teargas canister that hit his head. He had been taking a stroll along with his friends outside his house at Ellahi Bagh, Soura.
“My father was not a stone thrower or a protester. He was an aged man who was murdered by the forces in cold blood. Despite knowing all the facts, the police have not taken any action against the forces personnel involved in his killing,†said Fayaz in a media interview in Srinagar.
In his quest for justice, Fayaz has so far approached puppet Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, Chief Secretary and Home Secretary but nothing concrete has come out of these efforts.
The family has also approached the Human Rights Commission of the territory, which had directed the Senior Superintendent of Police to file a report on Khan’s death.
“He was shot at when there was no protest around. SP Hazrabal and SHO Police Station, Soura, have already recorded the statement of witnesses. Police have also recovered the canister which was fired at my father. Now police are seeking my permission to conduct an autopsy of the deceased after 10 months. It is disgustingly shameful,†Fayaz said, vowing to fight for justice.
