Peshawar: At least three people including father and his son were killed and two injured in a landmine explosion in the federally administrated tribal area Mohmand Agency on Friday.
According to political administration, a man and his son were among the three people who died when a mine exploded in the Shati Maina area of Tehsil Ambar. Two others including tribal leader, Malik Ali Rehman were injured in the explosion. The injured were shifted to Bajaur hospital for medical treatment. Police and law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area after the explosion and started investigation.

Mohmand Agency is among one of the seven agencies being administrated by the federation. Security clerics and heads of peace committees are targeted in landmine blasts in the said agencies. Pak army has launched various operations to purge the area of miscreants.

In Khyber Agency which is close to Mohmand Agency, operations were launched namely Khyber -I and Khyber –II during the last two years. After failure of peace talks between the government and banned outfit, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and attack on Karachi airport, Pakistan army launched operation Zarb-e-Azb in June, 2014. Another operation “Khyber –IV” was also started in the Rajgal valley of Khyber Agency during the running year, which culminated recently.
