MIRPUR (AJK): The population of Azad Jammu & Kashmir has rose to over 40.45 lakh as appeared through the population census- 2017, official sources said. When contacted Census Commissioner of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Raja Tariq Mahmood told this Correspondent Saturday evening that it emerged through the recently-conducted population census 2017 in Azad Jammu Kashmir, the population of AJK rose to a total of 40,45366 persons (both genders) as against the total population of 29,72501 persons according to the census -1998.
Unveiling district-wise breakup of all 10 district of AJK, the AJK Census Commissioner said that according to Population Census 2017, the number of persons in Muzaffarabad district were registered as 6 lakh, 50 thousand and 370, Neelam valley district (1 lakh, 91 thousand and 251), Hattiyan (Jhleum Valley) district (2 lakh, 30 thousand and 529), Bhimbher district (4 lakh, 20 thousand and 624), Mirpur District (4 lakh, 56 thousand and 200), Kotli district (7 lakh, 74 thousand and 194), Bagh district (3 lakh, 71 thousand and 919) Sudhanoti (Palandri ) District (2 lkah, 97 thousand and 584), Poonch District (5 lakh and 571) and Haveili district (1 lakh, 52 thousand and 124). In population Census 1998 the district-wise population of AJK was registered as under:- Muzaffarabad district (4,53975), Neelam valley district (1,25,712)), Hattiyan (Jhleum Valley) district (1,66,064), Bhimbher district (3,01,633), Mirpur District (3,33,482), Kotli district (5,63,094), Bagh district (2,81,721) Sudhanoti (Palandri ) District (2,24,091), Poonch District (4,11,035) and Haveili district (1, 11,694).
