Islamabad: (Parliament Times) While denouncing US state-department’s recent decision of designating Hizb-ul-Mujahideen as a “terrorist organization”, the Secretary General Democratic Political Movement (DPM) Shaukat Hussain Butt has termed the move as a travesty of International Laws and the UN Charter.

The US terror tag on Hizbul Mujahideen he said was unjustified and unfair. Butt said that the prime motive behind this lopsided decision was to appease India for financial gains and countering China. He said, “Hizbul Mujahideen is the largest indigenous Mujahideen outfit fighting against Indian occupation troops who are grossly involved in the worst human rights violations to perpetuate their illegal occupation of the state.

While questioning the justification of the move, he said, “Hizbul Mujahideen is solely struggling for the freedom of Jammu and Kashmir and it is not linked to any banned terror group and had never resorted to any action outside Jammu and Kashmir”.

He said US terrorist tag on Hizbul Mujahideen and its chief will not impact the Kashmiris’ struggle for right to self determination and the centrality of the Kashmir dispute. “People of Jammu Kashmir are striving for the right guaranteed to them by UN”, he said adding that instead of creating a conducive atmosphere to settle the issue in line with the UN resolutions India was hell-bent to defame the Kashmiris’ legitimate struggle at international level by associating it with the notorious terrorist outfits.
