ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said ensuring energy security is government’s highest priority
Chairing a meeting on the issued pertaining to energy sector in Islamabad today, the Prime Minister said provision of clean and affordable power to consumers is key to development.
The Prime Minister directed Finance and Power Divisions to jointly work out revalidation of individual factors contributing to the circular debt, focus on improving efficiencies and out-of-the-box solutions for resolving the issue.
He also directed that each Power Distribution Company should present a report on reasons for line losses with workable solutions to reduce these losses.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi instructed to plan for conversion of agricultural tube-wells to solar power in view of sustainable power supply and reducing the burden of subsidy.
He said this process will be started from Balochistan.
Talking to Minister for Water Resources Syed Javed Ali Shah in Islamabad today, the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi directed to undertake proactive measures for increasing water storage capacity of the country.
He called for planning new water reservoirs and implementing on-going projects on fast track.
The Prime Minister stated that water security is of prime concern for the government in view of impacts of climate change on Pakistan.
He said the government is cognizant of the water management issues and has therefore established separate ministry for water resources.
Talking to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said the Government is focusing on mainstreaming FATA at par with other federating units.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that consensus building among all stakeholders on important issues relating to FATA is the priority.
He emphasized that improvements in health, education and human resource capacity building is necessary for upgrading socio-economic status of FATA residents.
