ISLAMABAD: Ex prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is all set to leave today (Wednesday) for Lahore, his native constituency, rejecting the security threats from intelligence agencies.
According to the reports, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has all set to showcase its power of public with a rally from Islamabad to Lahore. The rally will begin its journey from D-chowk at 9 o clock and go to Rawalpindi via Blue Area, Expressway and Faizabad’s route.
Sources said that efforts will be made to get the rally in Lahore timely in order to avoid any untoward incident. Assurance will be get from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders for non-interruption of the rally on way to Lahore from Islamabad, sources said.
On the other hand sources said Nawaz Sharif will be allowed to come out of car after security clearance from intelligence agencies. Officials said that high security alert will be inactive with police personnel deployed in the way of rally, snipers on roofs of the surrounding areas. Use of drone cameras and balloons will be banned strictly while section 144 will be imposed in the province.
Interior Minister Ahsen Iqbal held a meeting with Nawaz Sharif asking him to choose route of Lahore Islamabad Motorway instead of GT road But Sharif reportedly refused the request. The minister presented the report of security agencies to Nawaz Sharif about the rally. He advised Sharif that in case he uses GT Road to travel to Lahore, he should stay in his vehicle and not come out too many times.
Sharif, who was disqualified by the Supreme Court for concealing assets in his nomination for the 2013 elections, wants to send out a message to his political rivals that he is still popular among the people.
