ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued a show cause notice to “Jaag TV†on the complaint of Muhammad Naeem Tahir, Senior Producer of Jaag TV for allegedly unlawfully terminating him and several other employees.
In his complaint, Naeem Tahir has claimed the TV channel has dubbed these forced terminations as simple resignations, which is not only a violation of the contract but also amounts to denying journalists their basic rights.
PEMRA has directed the management of Jaag TV to reply to the show cause notice within seven days, that is, on or before August 2, 2017explaining its position in this regard. Moreover, Chief Executive Officer of Jaag TV is also called upon for personal hearing on the said date at 2:00pm.
In case of failure to file reply within stipulated time and non appearance for personal hearing, the Authority shall have the right to initiate ex-parte proceedings.
