MIRPUR (AJK): (Parliament Times) Veteran leader of Kashmir freedom struggle and former Law Minister Ch. Sultan Ali Advocate has passed away.

The nonagenarian, who died of cardiac arrest in Sialkot on Wednesday, was laid to eternal rest in his ancestral graveyard in Sialkot Wednesday night. He has been bed ridden since past many months.

Being the close associate of former AJK President K H Khursheed [late], Ch. Sultan had attained the distinction to be the first leader of opposition in AJK Legislative Assembly from 1970 to 1975 as a legislator belonging to the Jammu & Kashmir Liberation League.

He was first elected as Member of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections 1970 and 1975 on Jammu & Kashmir refugees seat of Sialkot / Gujranwala being the candidate of Jammu & Kashmir Liberation League. He clinched the distinction to be the senior most parliamentarian in AJK after he was elected to the AJK Legislative Assembly, lower house of the AJK Parliament, for four times besides serving in various responsible positions including law minister and advisor for Plebiscite in former AJK governments during his entire active political life.

He had also contested Presidential election of Azad Jammu & Kashmir in 1975.
He later also held the membership of the AJK Legislative assembly after he was again elected, for the fourth time, as in 1996 being the candidate of PPP AJK from the same constituency. He served as Advisor to AJK Government for Plebiscite in then PPP AJK regime. He was a senior member of Sialkot District Bar Association.

He was devoted and committed to the cause of Kashmir, originally hailing from occupied Jammu, late Ch. Sultan Ali had settled in Sialkot after migrating to Pakistan in 1947 where he spent his entire life being a political activist and seasoned legal expert.

He left behind three sons and three daughters in his survivors including Ch. Waheed Ali, retired Deputy Controller Examination, Mirpur University of Science & Technology, Dr. Maqsood Ali Chaudhry and Ch. Mahmood Ali. He was father-in-law of Ch. Ahmed Ali, Superintend Engineer AJK PWD Highways Department.
