MORO: Former President Asif Ali Zardari said on Saturday that if the Pakistan People’s Party, during its rule, had not amended the Constitution, Nawaz Sharif would not have become the prime minister.

The former president in his address in an event in Moro, said the premier had been present in only four sessions of the assembly in the past four years.

He criticised also Nawaz Sharif’s ‘abysmal’ attendance in the national assembly.

“Mian Sahib you called yourself the leader of the House and prime minister but even Mohammad Khan Junejo attended more Assembly sessions than you,” the former president said making a reference to former Prime Minister Junejo’s short-lived, turbulent journey in office.

Zardari, who raised concerns regarding the PM’s attendance in the assembly, said such a precedent would only lead to worse attendance in Assembly sessions by future leaders.

Zardari also made an indirect reference to his senior party members, who are now a part of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The former president claimed that Imran will not issue party tickets to deserters of PPP.

Zardari also addressed the Kashmir issue, saying that the Kashmiri cause is very close to the nation’s heart.

Leader of the Opposition Khursheed Shah also addressed the attendees in Morro. He said that the PPP wants to keep the country on the path of democracy but the government steers it towards dictatorship.

He said that the PPP can take the country in the right direction. Shah said that the PPP saved Nawaz Sharif because a ‘dictator had removed him from authority’.
