ISLAMABAD: (Parliament Times) President Mamnoon Hussain has said provision of quality treatment and essential drugs at low cost to general public is the fundamental duty of the state.

He said this while chairing meetings of Monitoring Committee on provision of essential drugs and Committee for provision of 100 percent medicines to inpatients at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad on Monday.

The President also appreciated the office of Federal Ombudsman for devising a strategy to provide 100 percent medicines to inpatients at PIMS.

He expressed satisfaction over the mechanism devised for checking spurious drugs.

The President was apprised that Federal Medical College presently housed in the laboratory of Drug Regulatory Authority for the last five years will be shifted to Alfarabi Center and the laboratory will be used for WHO approved drug testing.

He said that accreditation of drugs with WHO will enable the country to enhance its pharmaceutical exports and earn foreign exchange reserves.

The President was apprised that 100 percent availability of medicines for inpatients at PIMS will be ensured in three phases.
