Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, students continued to hit the streets in Badgam, Srinagar and other parts of the territory, today, to register their protests against the illegal Indian occupation over Jammu and Kashmir.
Intense clashes broke out between the students and Indian forces in several areas of the occupied territory. The students came out of their classes and raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. The troops used brute force and fired teargas shells on the protesting students. Many students were injured in forces’ actions. Shopkeepers downed their shutters while traffic came to a halt in the protest-hit areas. A police officer was hospitalized after a stone hit his head during clashes between the students of SP College and the Indian forces in Srinagar.
The joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement issued in Srinagar reiterated its resolve to follow the cherished goal of freedom with unity. The leadership cautioned that enemy, frustrated by unprecedented people’s uprising, could exploit any weakness at this crucial phase of freedom movement.
Hurriyet leaders Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Mir Shahid Saleem, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and Jahangir Ghani Butt in their statements and addresses said that India and its stooges were pushing Kashmiri youth to the wall leaving no place for them but to join armed resistance. They said that the people of Kashmir wanted a peaceful and political settlement of the Kashmir dispute.
The Dukhtaran-e-Millat General Secretary, Nahida Nasreen in a statement demanded immediate release of ailing party Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi and her associate, Fehmeeda Sofi.
The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference organized a blood donation camp at Sannat Nagar in Srinagar as part of its programme to commemorate the 15th martyrdom anniversary of prominent liberation leader, Abdul Ghani Lone.
An Indian soldier committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon at an army camp in Reasi area of Jammu. This is second such death in one week and third in the past two weeks in the territory. This incident of suicide raised the number of such deaths among Indian troops and police personnel to 382 since January 2007.
