Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) The prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Khan has said that his government was strictly pursuing its agenda to ensure adherence to the principles of rule of law supremacy of constitution in the region.

AJK premier made these remarks while talking to delegations of lawyers led by Haroon Riaz advocate secretary general Central Bar Association, Ashfaq Kazmi advocate, Tariq Mir president Jehlum Valley Bar Association here on Friday. Khan said that eliminating corruption from the AJK was a big challenge for his government, but he was determined to fight it. He said the previous government failed to deliver because of bad governance and institutionalized corruption. “PML-N has a clear road map of tackling corruption and establishing good governance for which people of AJK gave us huge mandate in the elections,” he said adding that the government had enough funds to exploit the tourism and hydroelectric potential of the state to create jobs for the local youth.

Haider condemned the massive human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) by the Indian army. The prime minister said that the lawyers’ community should play its pivotal role to provide instant justice to common masses. He said that the legal fraternity has significantly contributed in strengthening and enhancing rule of law in the region. Besides providing people the provision of immediate and instant justice he said that it was incumbent upon the legal fraternity to raise their voice in favour of Kashmiri people and expose atrocities committed by Indian occupation forces in the disputed territory.

He said that PML-N government in the region was also keen to provide immediate and instant justice to common masses. For this purpose he said that the present government was making all out efforts to bring judicial reforms thereby taking on board all stake holders of the region. “Family courts have also been reinstated and within next couple of months the said courts start functioning and hearing the cases”, he said adding that law commission has also been made pro-active to ensure speedy dispensation of justice.

Terming supremacy of rule of law as a key to strengthen the state institutions the premier said that no state or societies can ever flourish or exist without respect for rule of law. “Violation of rule of law leads to destruction” he said adding that effective measures have been taken to ensure good governance and adherence to norms of merit in the region. He said that in order to ensure transparency and appointments on merit, Public Service Commission has been tasked to appoint court Qazies and civil judges in furture.

Earlier the president of Central Press Club Sohail Mughal called on the Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan at his office and extended him an invitation to participate in the upcoming seminar to be held at Central Press Club Muzaffarabad. The Prime Minister accepted the invitation and welcomed the decision of holding seminar on Kashmir at Press Club.

Speaking on the occasion AJK premier said government believes in freedom of press, saying that in AJK media and civil society enjoy ideal freedom of expression and speech. He said that he had passed orders for provision of land for construction of offices of AJK Press Foundation at districts headquarters. He assured the CPC president that government would provide all out support in the construction of press club building at Muzaffarabad. Khan also vowed to provide housing colony for media workers.

Meanwhile the chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Society Dr.Saeed Ilahi called on the Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider and exchanged views on the issues related to emergency services and preparations for dealing the affects of natural disasters.
