KARACHI: The ongoing strike by the truckers in Karachi is causing massive losses to trade and industry.Lasbela Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) President Ismail Suttar on Thursday said that the business community had requested the Sindh High Court (SHC) to soften its verdict banning the movement of trucks and trailers in Karachi, keeping in view the ground realities and usual practices in connection with the transportation of raw material to the industries and finished goods to the port for prompt shipments and for timely distribution in the market in the whole country.
He further said that the industries and the ship-breaking yard in Lasbela district of Balochistan were suffering too much due to this strike. He said that industrial production had been disturbed because of non-availability of raw material in time, due to which manufacturers were unable to meet the demand of their products. He further said that continuous transportation of raw material and products from Lasbela Industrial Estates and Marble City and the iron scraps from ship breaking industry should be ensured for smooth running of industrial activities in the region. “Otherwise, revenue generation from the only organised industrial sector in Balochistan will be affected.”
He further said that this strike was not only affecting the industrialist and traders but also the dock labour, importers, exporters, transporters, stevedores, port users, shipping and clearing agents and other agencies concerned, besides incurring high transportation expenses. In view of the above facts, Ismail Suttar
