RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Awaran in Balochistan on Saturday and said the army would continue to facilitate development efforts in the province.The army chief was briefed about the security situation and community assistance initiatives by the army and Frontier Corps (FC) in southern Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.Gen Bajwa was informed that almost 150,000 individuals had benefitted from medical initiatives including an active partnership with the civil administration to increase the capacity of the District Headquarters Hospital Awaran.“Around 200 students in Awaran are being provided with free education with boarding and lodging facilities by the army and the FC,†the ISPR said in the statement. “A new school has also been recently established by the FC Balochistan,†it added.
The COAS lauded the efforts of the army, the FC and other law-enforcement agencies for improving the law and order situation in the area.Later, he met with Awaran’s elders and notables who appreciated the army’s efforts for security and development in the area. The COAS thanked the locals for supporting the security forces.
On his arrival, Gen Bajwa was received by Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Aamir Riaz.
