MUZAFFARABAD : Indian troops once again violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing in Samahni sector of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) at 8am today (Monday).

The Indian forces targeted populated areas in Dana, Baroh, Chahi, Khamba, and Bandala due to which the residents at Line of Control (LoC) became stranded in their houses. The shelling from Indian side has also caused damage to the houses and other important buildings.

Pakistan Army personnel gave befitting reply to the Indian aggression. However, no loss of life has been reported till the filing of this news. According to security sources, the firing was continued in the valley as per last update.

Tensions in Kashmir, the long-disputed Himalayan region, reached dangerous levels in September last year after 19 Indian soldiers were killed in militants’ attack on their camp in Uri sector.

There have since been repeated outbreaks of cross-border firing, with both sides reporting deaths and injuries including of civilians.

Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan since the end of British colonial rule in 1947. Both claim the Himalayan territory in full and have fought two wars over the mountainous region.
