KARACHI: The Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) appreciated the federal government’s decision of lifting moratorium on new gas connections after a period of six years. The federal cabinet has taken the right decision in regard to the ban on new gas connections for private and commercial consumers as energy is the need of the hour for economic progress of the country, said ABAD Chairman Mohsin Sheikhani in a press release. The ABAD has time and again demanded of the government to lift moratorium on new gas connections because a number of high-rise buildings constructed by members of ABAD and other residential societies could not be handed over to their buyers due to the absence of gas connections. He said ABAD has announced to build ‘Social Housing’ for low income groups of people and it is going to launch the first project containing 5,000 units of 120 square yards from Islamabad by the end of this month. The social house will cost between Rs1.5 million and Rs1.9 million depending on the cost of land, said Sheikhani, adding that clusters of ‘Social Housing’ will have all amenities and facilities for the benefit of their residents.“We will use German technology for construction of ‘Social Houses’ for speedy construction and will hand over possession to allottees within a two-year period.â€After Islamabad, he said, ABAD will start working on such projects in Karachi.
