KARACHI: Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair has hailed the participation of the foreign teams in the fifth edition of the Blind Cricket ODI World Cup to be staged in Pakistan early next year.

He was speaking to chairman of the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council Syed Sultan Shah and director coordination PBCC Asif Azeem who called on him at the Governor House here.

Blind cricket team member Ayub Khan, who represented Pakistan in the recently held Blind T20 World Cup, was also present on the occasion.

Governor Sindh said that participation of the teams from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal in the matches of the Cup to be played in Pakistan augurs well for the future of the country and will promote the soft image.

“This would help pave the way for the restoration of international sports in the country,” he said.

According to the organisers, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal will play their matches in Pakistan while the other teams including Australia, South Africa and the West Indies will compete in the matches in the UAE.

Zubair further stated that blind people have exhibited their talents and abilities in a number of fields and that they are second to none.

“The blind cricketers who have brought laurels for Pakistan in international events are our heroes,” he said.

He also lauded the efforts undertaken by Syed Sultan Shah in bringing the World Cup matches to Pakistan.

Sultan said that Pakistan is proud to host the fifth edition of the Blind Cricket World Cup in January 2018 which will further boost the effort for return of international cricket to the region.

Governor Sindh assured PBCC chief that full security as well as the required facilities would be provided for the matches.
