KARACHI: A robber was arrested for the fourth time on Sunday in Bahadurabad area of the city.

While quoting the robber, identified as Javed Akhtar, Gulshan Superintendent of Police Dr Fahad told that he has been arrested thrice before.

He was arrested by Gulbahar police, counter-terrorism department and Special Investigation Unit over charges of illegally possessing weapons. Akhtar is also a fugitive of the court.

The arrest was made during a search operation in Bahadurabad.

He has been accused of being involved in various criminal activities.

A heavy cache of arms was also found in his possession.

Earlier this year, three dacoits were killed in an alleged encounter in the Firozabad area, near Bahadurabad, as they tried to break into a house for robbery.

It was reported that burglaries in Tipu Sultan Road and Bahadurabad areas, along with the aforementioned one, had swelled in number.

Bahadurabad is one of the areas identified by the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) as the one that was most frequented by robbers for criminal activities.

Citizens were also cautioned to be careful on the road from Jail Chowrangi to Bahadurabad and Tariq Road in order to avoid being mugged.

The CPLC has identified 60 areas of the city where citizens are at a risk of mugging and other street crimes. Besides Bahadurabad, the high-risk areas include NIPA Chowrangi, Hassan Square, Sakhi Hassan, Aisha Manzil, Tariq Road, Do Darya, PIDC, Clifton, and Defence.

According to the organisation, robbers frequent the road from Qalandria Chowk, North Nazimabad to Five Star Chowrangi, and loot unsuspecting people of their cash and mobile phones.

The mini-food street at Hassan Square is also a high-risk zone, where street criminals get away with their act without the fear of security officials. The Karachi University-Safari Park route is also labelled unsafe.
