Islamabad: (Parliament Times) Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) gives a special priority to small farmers of Balochistan for their capacity building. PARC has launched various projects in the province to promote agro-livestock activities in the area to uplift the socio-economic condition of the small and poor farmers. This was stated by Chairman PARC Dr. Yusuf Zafar T.I. while addressing at concluding ceremony of four week training course of 7th Batch of small farmers of Balochistan here at the Auditorium of National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) Islamabad.
The course was organized by Agriculture Poly-technique Institute of NARC / PARC under Research for Agricultural Development Programme (RADP) sub-project titled “Skill Development of the Farmers of Balochistan (SDFB)â€.
Under SDFB program 1000 small farmers of Balochistan Province would be trained in the area of crop sciences, horticulture, agriculture mechanization, water resources, animal sciences and value addition. In this training course 118 farmers were trained and so far in total 740 small farmers have been trained out of 1000 target. This initiative was taken by PARC on special directives of Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan on the rising demand from farming community of Balochistan province.
On this occasion DG NARC Dr. M. Azeem Khan, PD (RADP) Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad, Director (API) Dr. Khalid Farooq and other speakers have also addressed the participants. They said that the Balochistan province is the future of the country’s agriculture and the huge available potential has not so far been exploited. The lack of trained manpower in agriculture sector is one of the main constraints in development of agriculture in the province.
