Srinagar : In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, while denouncing the arrest spree unleashed by Indian police and paramilitary forces, has said that a martial law-like situation is prevailing in the territory.
Syed Ali Gilani, in a statement issued in Srinagar, lashed out at the authorities for subjecting resistance leaders and activists to political vendetta on one pretext or another. He pointed out that all democratic ethics and norms were being trampled by Indian forces in the territory. Syed Ali Gilani impressed upon international human rights organizations to take cognizance of serious violations of basic human rights in Kashmir.
Hurriyet leaders including Shabbir Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Farida Behanji and Bilal Siddiqi in their statements said that puppet politicians at the behest of their masters in New Delhi were making last-ditched efforts to break the exemplary unity of the Kashmiri people against the Indian occupation.
Meanwhile, puppet Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti while speaking in the so-called Kashmir Assembly confirmed that 8,587 people were arrested during the ongoing uprising in the Valley. The actual number of people arrested during the uprising is higher than what the puppet Chief Minister said which is 10,329.
On the other hand, Dr Rajendran Narayanan, assistant professor at Haryana based Ashoka University, who had signed a petition calling for plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir, has resigned from his post. Media reports said that Dr Rajendran had also condemned Indian atrocities in Kashmir in the wake of killing of Burhan Wani on July 8, last year.
