Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) AJK President Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan has said credit goes to Ulema for maintaining an atmosphere of unity, brotherhood and sectarian harmony in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to a delegation headed by Mufti Mahmoodul Hassan and comprising Peer Nazir Hussain Geelani, President Itehadul Madaris, Moulana Altaf Hussain Selfi, Moulana Abdul Malik Advocate and Moulana Atta Ullah Alvi that called on him here on Thursday, he said Ulema in Azad Kashmir have distinction to resolve religious differences with peaceful dialogues and on the basis of logic and reasoning and never allowed sectarian differences to cross the certain limits.

This is the right approach and compatible to the teachings of Qur’an and Sunnah of the prophet. The president assured   Ulema to consult all Vice Chancellors of AJK universities for opening of more Islamic Studies department and establishment of Seerat Toyyaba chairs in the universities. President Masood further assured the Ulema that Shariat Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir will continue to function and will be provided constitutional protection in the light of the Supreme Court orders.

He said that judges with proper knowledge of Islamic Jurisprudence would be appointed in the Shariat Court and reservations of religious circles especially of Ulema regarding Shariat Court and others issues will be addressed. About the registration of religious seminaries under Tajweedul Quran Trust, the president said matter will be taken up for deliberation in the next meeting of the Trust.

Speaking on the occasion, Ulema appreciated the efforts of AJK government to bring transparency, merit and good governance and assured their full cooperation to the government. The Ulema delegation gave various suggestions for strengthening of Shariat Court, Qazi Courts and other institutions to discourage sectarianism in the state.
