Islamabad: (Parliament Times) AJK President Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan has called upon United Nations Secretary General to play role for peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute in line with the Security Council Resolutions by holding a free and fair plebiscite.

He was addressing at International Parliamentary Seminar on Kashmir organized by Young Parliamentarians Forum in collaboration with Ministry of Foreign Affairs here on Thursday. The President demanded that UN Secretary General should act under the Charters of the United Nations without waiting willingness of India to resolve the conflict in the larger interest of peace and security in the region.

He said that India should be asked to demilitarize Kashmir by withdrawing its 800,000 army from the held territory, stop use of pellets guns against the peaceful protesters, grant Kashmiris their democratic right of speech, free movement and right of association. He demanded immediate release of all the political prisoners languishing in different jails of the occupied Kashmir.

Sardar Masood Khan also condemned the latest Indian move to grant non Kashmiris Hindus nativity status and termed it as an attempt to reduce the majority of Kashmiri Muslim into a minority and warned India to desist from implementing this plan. He also called upon the United Nations’ High Commissioner for Human rights to reiterate his commitment to send a fact finding mission to Occupied Kashmir for observing the human rights situation there.

President Sardar Masood Khan also expressed his profound gratitude to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, leaders of Young Parliamentarian Forum and the Foreign Office for holding highly significant seminar on Kashmir. He said I can tell on the basis my forty years experience with Pakistan’s Foreign Office that Pakistan never overlooked the Kashmir issue. The AJK President also thanked members of UK and European parliaments including Lord Qurban Hussain, Lord Nazir Ahmed, MEP Muhammad Afzal Khan, MP Amjad Bashir and Yasmeen Dar for attending the seminar.
