Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the authorities again placed the Chairman of Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest soon after Friday prayers, today.

The forum spokesman in a statement in Srinagar said, “Immediately after Mirwaiz reached home he was informed about his house detention.” He added that the Mirwaiz was released at 12:30pm and was placed under house arrest again at 2:45pm.

Earlier, addressing a public gathering at the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar Mirwaiz Umar Farooq strongly denounced the curbs and restrictions on the political, social and religious activities of Hurriyet leaders. He said that the Kashmiris’ voice for their rights could not be suppressed through such cheap tactics.

Paying rich tributes to the youth martyred by Indian troops in Arwani area of Islamabad district, the Mirwaiz said that the Kashmiri martyrs’ sacrifices, which had centre-staged the Kashmir dispute at the international level, would not go waste. He said that it was the collective responsibility of the Hurriyet leadership and the people to take the ongoing liberation movement to its logical conclusion.

The Mirwaiz said that the people of Kashmir had been deprived of their birthright to self-determination through military might. He said that every effort would be made to highlight at international level the massive human rights violations by Indian forces in the territory.

Meanwhile, the forum spokesman in a statement in Srinagar condemned the detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and others Hurriyet leaders, demanding their immediate unconditional release.
